Matt age 13 post surgery
At age 13 Matt had a tumor that was so large it forced his spine into a dangerous lateral curve. He was in tremendous pain as a result. He was misdiagnosed twice and finally a doctor at New York hospital’s Hospital for Special Surgery figured it out and successfully performed the surgery. They put Matt in a full-torso cast for a year and then wanted to put him in a full upper-body brace for the rest of my life and he refused to do it. After a repeated back and forth with the doctor and his mother Matt resolutely told them that there has to be another way. The doctor mentioned that exercise was showing some favor in rehabilitation research circles and that he could try it, but if it didn’t work it would be the brace for life. That started Matt’s journey in fitness and to beat the brace.
Matt now devotes his life to inspiring people and teaching them what he had learned to be able to build his body to beat the brace and to be in top shape at 61 years old. Matt is a graduate of Arizona State University, and is a licensed massage therapist. He has worked in several physical therapy clinics and five star spas, and has had his own practice for ten years. Matt is a frequent guest on Fox's Loving Living Local television show as an expert in injury care and prevention. He also performs fitness events for charity including doing a 1000 pull-up events with all proceeds going to Food for the Hungry.
His new book is called Don't Sweat 60, and in it contains his story in detail and the methods he used to be able to avoid the brace and to be in the shape that he is now. He especially wants to teach more mature individuals because his method is totally safe and highly effective, and can change their lives for the better. He says that he feels like he’s still in his twenties and wants others to experience that same joy as well. For Matt, that is his greatest passion.
Matt’s personal fitness records include: 425 fist push-ups flat to the floor and to full lockout in 19 minutes,365 strict form pull-ups in a half hour, 640 in an hour, and 1000 in an hour and forty-five minutes, and 2000 in one workout.

The Age Defying Workout I believe was an essential part of my overcoming invasive spinal surgery and avoiding having to wear a brace for the rest of my life. I also believe that this workout method has allowed me to have such wonderful longevity that allows me to train just as I did when I was in my twenties. I feel great and want to share this as many people as I can so they can enjoy the benefits as well.
This workout is a part of the incredible work of Arthur Jones inventor of the Nautilus Method. It allows you to make the most efficient progress in your fitness goals and be able to do it for as long as you like, and enjoy the life changing benefits that it brings.
The secret involves two essential methodologies: Small increments and slower speed. These two factors allow you to train to get the best results the fastest and avoid injury.
1) The body wants to maintain homeostasis, to stay the same and preserve its resources. We need to stimulate it to change (such as by working out) but not faster then it can manage at the time, or else you will get injured. It will respond positively when we do and get in better shape, we then give it a little more stimulus and it will continue to respond and get stronger and look better, but without overdoing it and getting hurt, which is very frustrating and makes many people want to give up for good, afraid it will happen again, and I don't blame them. The Age Defying Workout avoids that and allows you to make safe and steady progress.
2) The movement speed while working out is critical to success and longevity as well. Fast, ballistic movements especially those that involve yanking and jerking weights of any kind during exercising damages the joints and keeps us from improving our bodies any longer as well as the injuries we have to deal with as a result. The Age defying Workout eliminates that possibility with slow and controlled movements. Momentum is taken out of the picture during exercise and it allows you to reap the results you want and for as long as you want.
These and other aspects of the method are thoroughly described in Matt's new book, Don't Sweat 60 available from this website. You can also contact Matt on this site with your questions and for personal fitness consulting and speaking engagements.
The Age defying Workout provides a way to train safely and maximally at any age. Matt explains it all thoroughly in his book, Don't Sweat 60, or you can arrange a consultation or online training with him and learn his secrets to feeling like your thirty when your sixty :)
